Chrysler A-Body Rear Suspension Installation

NOTE: Remember to clamp ALL brackets in place for a trial fit BEFORE you do any welding!
  • *  The front crossmember of the rear suspension lines up even with the original front spring perch crossmember.
*  When welding the the rear brackets onto the housing DO NOT weld more that 1/4″ at a time. You must allow the welds to cool every 1/4″ before proceeding in order to prevent the housing from warping.
*  Our rear crossmember fits snugly inside the original crossmember.
*  Trim the floor back to the original rails.
*  We cut the original wheel wells even with the floor and slid them into the frame rail. After trimming the floor a strip of steel was used to finish the inner wheel wells.
The following installation was performed on a 1968 Barracuda while on a rotisserie

We made a 90° jig 25 3/8″ apart to clamp the rear brackets to keep them straight when placing them on the rear housing.
